Small-cap stocks having a good run
by nadya ngui
KUALA LUMPUR: The action is in small-cap stocks, which have been enjoying a rally for more than a week.
MIDF Amanah Investment Bank Bhd research head Zulkifli Hamzah said small-cap stocks “is where the action is” with local investors seen pumping more money into the market.
He said this could be due to small-cap stocks having been oversold and investors more comfortable with the share-price levels.
“If you look at the indices, especially the small cap stocks, prices have been rising which is interesting because we are actually in a period of quite intense uncertainty.
“This is because the Fed just made an announcement that they are likely to raise interest rates in December,” Zulkifli said.
He urged investors to focus on the FBM 70 and small cap stocks instead of the FBM KLCI.
Zulkifli said investors should not miss out on these stocks, which had made “serious progress”. “So far, based on the trend of buying and selling, local sentiment is improving,” he added.
Zulkifli said foreign investors had become more positive on the local bourse since the beginning of October, with more incoming funds compared with the Indonesian, Thai and Filipino bourses.
“In the Philippines, money has been going out. There was also a big outflow from Indonesia last week but generally, the ringgit seems to be back in favour and that to me is quite positive,” he noted.
However, despite the “okay” performance of the local bourse, the ringgit remains undervalued and the currency did not reflect fundamentals.
The research house has maintained a 1,850-level target for the benchmark KLCI next year.

The charts
It seems like FBMSCAP has more upside.
This is how the funds perform from this year. Indeed a good run.
